Keep Wind off Woldgate
about us
We are local residents of the Woldgate area who share a deep concern about the proposed wind turbine development and its potential impact on our landscape, environment, and community.
Our group is made up of people who live, work, and farm in and around Woldgate. Some of us have lived here for generations; others have chosen this area more recently because of its open countryside, distinctive views, wildlife, and quiet character. What unites us is a belief that this place matters and deserves careful, respectful decision making.
We are not opposed to renewable energy. We recognise the need to reduce carbon emissions and transition to sustainable power. Our concern is about scale, siting, and impact. Large industrial turbines placed in sensitive rural landscapes can cause lasting harm to visual amenity, heritage settings, wildlife, and residents’ quality of life.
We believe the Woldgate area is particularly vulnerable due to its elevated position, open views, historic significance, and ecological value. Developments here would be visible over long distances and would permanently alter the character of the landscape.
Our aim is to protect Woldgate and its surrounding landscape by ensuring that:
The voices of Woldgate residents and land users are fully heard and properly considered in the planning process;
Proposals affecting Woldgate are scrutinised objectively, transparently, and against the realities of the local landscape;
Developments that are poorly located, excessive in scale, or inadequately assessed in relation to Woldgate are robustly challenged;
Planning decisions concerning Woldgate are based on clear evidence and site-specific assessment, not assumptions or generic policy claims.
We will engage constructively with planners, councillors, and developers, and we encourage open discussion rather than confrontation. This group exists to share information, raise legitimate concerns, and stand up for the long-term interests of Woldgate and its surrounding communities.
Protecting the countryside and supporting sensible renewable energy are not opposing goals. We believe it is possible, and necessary, to do both properly.
